About

Design a dining room scene with at least ten objects in a three-dimensional environment using 3D modelling techniques learned from class.

Additional Information

This dining room scene was one of the projects we worked on in our 3D class. Although I’m still rather new with using Blender, I enjoyed my learning process throughout this project.

We had to design a dining room scene with at least ten objects in a three-dimensional space using the 3D modelling techniques we learned from class. I also did some research to be more effective in modelling some of the objects that I included in the scene.

For this project, I did research for inspirations for the setting and the individual pieces. Besides the ceramics, the materials that I used for the furniture gravitated towards a mix of wood and metal. I intentionally did that with the furniture from my maternal ancestral house back in the Philippines in mind. That place certainly holds a place in my heart as I usually spent a portion of my summer there as I was growing up. From what I can recall, all of the furnishings in that house were of wood materials. I wanted to add a more modern flair to it, which resulted to those furniture designs. Here is the list of the items that are I modelled for the dining room scene:

  • benches
  • candles
  • credenza
  • lighting
  • mirror
  • decorative ceramic vessel
  • decorative plate
  • plates
  • forks
  • spoons
  • glasses
  • dining table

I was satisfied with my work as I was able to model a little more than the intended goal. In addition to that, I was successful with adding the little details to each piece – the lighting is a great example of this. I modelled the lighting up to the tiniest detail, even the filament for the light bulb was included. The same could be said for the benches and the dining table. I made sure to make the edges look as organic as possible.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, I loved working on this project. I learned new 3D techniques from my research and polished up on some of  3D techniques we covered in class to accomplish the goal I had in mind, and I’m glad I went through all of that.
