About

Creating event promotional materials for our community church fundraising dinner to attract public attention to the fundraising event.

Additional Information

As someone who grew up in the Philippines, part of what I sorely missed are the festivals. From the brightly-colored banderitas to the often unending parades and processions, you’ll definitely feel the lively and welcoming atmosphere within the community. However, the star of these festivals would ultimately be the food. With endless invitations from fellow community members, even those from other towns, you can literally eat until you drop.

For this project, a fundraising dinner was held at our community church to help raise funds for the church, as well as to connect community members and to help people from other cultural background learn more about the Filipino culture. Luckily enough, I became a part of the organizing committee, and when the need arose for posters to be made, I volunteered to do it. I had to create event promotional posters that would bring out the boundless energy one might feel if you were to attend a festival back home.

Taking inspiration from the Philippine flag, I used red, yellow, and blue for the banderitas, which is a staple for Filipino festivals. I also used the fireworks in the animated poster to represent the unmistakably loud music that fills the air during a Filipino festival. My color palette centered around the vibrant rainbow colors to help evoke liveliness. For the ticket, I used the photo of a boodle fight food spread to further emphasize the sense of community. Though not included, I also provided an information sheet on our dinner menu, which shows a brief explanation about the dish we were serving at the time.

Taking on this project as part of my duties in the organizing committee was quite an enjoyable experience. We were able to sell all of the tickets, and we received highly positive feedbacks about the event. We even heard requests for another fundraiser dinner from some of our fellow church members.
